Location:
The Microbiology Section is located in room 18 of the Laboratory.
Overview:
The Microbiology Section at MACH encompasses the areas of bacteriology, parasitology and PCR testing for Chlamydia
trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhea. These areas are vital to assist in the diagnosis and management of infectious
diseases. The Microbiology Section takes specimens obtained from patients in a variety of ways and processes them
for identification of potential pathogens using state of the art techniques. The section has the ability to identify
a wide variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
Strep-line:
We also have a strep-line for patients with possible Beta-Streptococcus infections. After a physician performs
a throat culture, the patient may call the Strep-line at
(706) 544-2653 to receive results. POSITIVE throat
cultures remain on the recording for 3 days. If your result is POSITIVE, contact your physician or clinic.
